Data in Schools Conference: Participant Code of Conduct

Our Commitment
The Data in Schools conference is dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative professional learning environment for everyone. We believe that a positive and welcoming atmosphere, where diverse perspectives on data use in education can be shared openly, is essential for fostering meaningful dialogue and professional growth, consistent with the high standards of K–12 educational communities. This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for all participants, including attendees, educators, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and vendors, at all conference venues, including physical and any virtual spaces, and conference-related social events. We invite all participants to help us create a positive experience for everyone.

Expected Conduct
All participants are expected to uphold the following principles:
  1. Respectful and Inclusive Behavior
    • Treat all individuals with kindness, dignity, courtesy, and respect, regardless of their background, identity, role, or opinion (including but not limited to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, physical appearance, or veteran status).
    • Engage in discussions and interactions with professionalism, empathy, and intellectual curiosity. Value diverse perspectives and experiences.
    • Communicate constructively and considerately. Avoid demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.
  2. Safe and Welcoming Environment
    • Contribute to an environment where all participants feel welcomed, valued, and safe to share their ideas.
    • Use appropriate and respectful language at all times. Offensive, inflammatory, derogatory, or exclusionary comments or conduct are not acceptable. This includes, but is not limited to, offensive verbal comments related to the characteristics mentioned above, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
    • Respect personal space, boundaries, and the right of others to hold different viewpoints.
  3. Professionalism and Integrity
    • Uphold the ethical standards and professional conduct expected within K–12 educational settings and the broader professional community.
    • Ensure that all presentations, materials, discussions, and interactions are accurate, reflect student-centered values, and contribute to an atmosphere of mutual learning and professional development.
    • Be mindful of the diverse professional roles and responsibilities of all participants.
  4. Sponsor and Vendor Guidelines
    • We value the contributions of our sponsors and vendors and expect them to engage with attendees in a respectful, transparent, and professional manner.
    • Official Sponsors:Only officially recognized sponsors of the Data in Schools conference are permitted to:
      • Distribute marketing materials or promotional items.
      • Present at sponsored workshops or sessions as per their sponsorship agreement.
      • Host branded displays in authorized locations.
      • Wear apparel that prominently features their company branding for promotional purposes.
    • Non-Sponsoring Vendors/Organizations: Individuals representing non-sponsoring vendors or organizations are welcome to attend as participants to learn and network. However, they may notengage in any form of solicitation or promotional activities. This includes, but is not limited to:
      • Distributing unapproved marketing materials, flyers, or business cards in common areas or during sessions.
      • Attempting to sell products or services.
      • Wearing branded apparel for promotional purposes.
      • Organizing or promoting unofficial affiliated events without prior consent from conference organizers.
  5. Addressing Concerns and Upholding Our Standards
    • We encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses behavior that seems to conflict with this Code of Conduct, or has any related concerns, to please bring it to the attention of a conference organizer or designated staff member.
    • We take all concerns seriously and will look into them with discretion and fairness, always prioritizing the safety and well-being of our participants.
    • Should a violation of this Code of Conduct occur, conference organizers will consider the circumstances and determine appropriate steps. Our aim is to address the situation constructively, which may include a conversation, a warning, or, in more serious cases, asking a participant to leave the conference without a refund, or restricting future attendance. In certain situations, we may also need to inform an individual's employer or relevant authorities.
